Based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, GODSPELL has regularly been performed successfully since it opened on Broadway in 1971. The first musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz, who went on to write Pippin, Children of Eden and Wicked, GODSPELL was quickly adapted for film and, injected with contemporary references and dazzling new arrangements, it continues to be a sensation that touches audiences to this day.
Featuring the international hit ‘Day by Day’ along with well-known songs such as ‘All for the Best’, ‘By my Side’and ‘Light of the World’, GODSPELL is a rock opera that boasts an eclectic blend of music ranging from R&B to vaudeville. These songs are employed by a troupe of eccentric players, who tell the tale of Jesus in a new age through parables, games and storytelling, all interspersed with hefty doses of comedy. Watch as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage, dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion but leaving Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love to live vibrantly on.
Join double NODA Award winning MYTS for this compelling tale of friendship, loyalty, forgiveness and Love.
