Summer School 2013

Stafford Gatehouse Theatre is thrilled to announce that this year's Summer School production will be the iconic musical Whistle Down The Wind, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman.

Based on the novel by Mary Hayley Bell, Whistle Down The Wind follows the fortunes of a fugitive caught between the prejudice of adults and the innocence of the young. Swallow, a 15 year old girl growing up in America’s Deep South in the fifties discovers a mysterious man hiding out in a barn. When she asks who he is and the first words he utters are “Jesus Christ”, it’s as if all her prayers have been answered. The town’s children vow to protect the stranger from the people who are determined to catch a fugitive hiding in their midst. As fantasy and reality collide, Swallow is torn between the two and begins to discover who she is and where she is going.

Summer School will start on Monday 22nd July and run until Saturday 10th August, with performances from Wednesday 7th August to Saturday 10th August.

Eighty places will be available and the only way to gain a place in this year’s professionally directed and choreographed production is to audition on Sunday 19th May 2013

For the first time the show will be open for children up to the age of 21, instead of 18.

 Stafford Gatehouse Youth Theatre

Stafford Gatehouse Youth Theatre [SGYT] is a unique, fun, imaginative and successful youth theatre, which has been established for over 25 years. During this time it has seen thousands of 7 to 18 year olds participate in, and benefit from, weekly workshops in drama, aiding the children’s performance skills as well as increase their confidence and self expression.

The youth theatre is organised into six age groups, led by trained tutors who meet weekly during school term times at Stafford Gatehouse Theatre. SGYT aims to challenge young people to develop confidence, creativity and consideration for others, in the context of a professional theatre. The SGYT is very lucky to be based in a professional theatre and an important aspect of its work is the teaching and learning of theatre skills, aiming for professional standards.

Stafford Gatehouse Front of House Volunteers

If you are interested in Stafford Gatehouse Theatre and would like to get more involved, you may like to join our Front of House as a Volunteer. The theatre could not run as efficiently as it does without the valuable support we get from our corps of Front of House Volunteers. With over 200 performances a year within the MET Studio, The Gatehouse Theatre and the Stafford Festival Shakespeare (at Stafford Castle), our volunteers provide a warm welcome to our audiences. Whether it's helping people locate their seats or where the nearest refreshment kiosk is or assisting our own Front of House staff during emergency evacuations, the Front of House volunteers are a valuable asset.
